Governor Katie Hobbs (D-Ariz.) on Friday dismissed revelations that she misused government resources to censor critics during her 2022 gubernatorial campaign as a “sideshow.”
“I’m glad we’ve solved water, the housing crisis, and fixed public education and have time for this sideshow,” she said, according to audio that aired on KJZZ 91.5 FM.
On Thursday, Arizona Capitol Oversight released exclusive internal emails revealing that then-Secretary Hobbs and her government staff unconstitutionally censored her political opponents — including the Arizona Republican Party and a sitting state legislator — during the 2020 and 2022 election cycles.
House Speaker Ben Toma announced that afternoon that the Arizona House of Representatives had formed a new legislative committee to examine “emerging legal and constitutional issues surrounding censorship by government officials.”
